MGL AmpWorks Lead Master 50 Amp Head
(Item#262)  I am now taking orders for the new MGL AmpWorks Lead Master 50 head. Below is the description for the amp. The head is available in either a tolexed Baltic Birch head cab at $2,700.00 or hardwood cab at an upcharge of $300.00. We have already done some great looking wood cabs in flame maple, birdseye maple, cherry and black walnut. A number of tolex colors are available: black, purple, dark green, white, cream(Swanson Cabinets had a roll of cream made for them and it looks like the creamy white that was used on the Plexi era Marshalls). There is also a matching tolexed 2x12" speaker cab available loaded with Celestion 25w greenback reissue speakers for $800.00. Amp heads and speaker cabs will be made to order and will require a deposit. The amp is based on my personal Marshall 2204 that I've owned for over 20 year. I got together with a group of my good friends and we spent about 8 months cloning the voice of my amp. First is Guy Harvey who has been building amps on the side for local customers for years. He and I did most of the R&D and he is doing the actual builds. My other friend, Evan Cantor, who was half owner and designer for Bedrock amps years ago has been a great help and advisor. Another long time friend, Joel Paul, who is a guitar player that owns a custom furniture and cabinet business so he is making the hardwood head cabs. Jeff Swanson of Swanson Cabinets will be making the tolexed head boxes and matching speaker cabs. My original 2204 amp has lower voltage than a typical amp from that period and it has a lot to do with the warmer, fatter and creamy tone that it has. Between my store and personally I've probably had about 75 of the JMP 50w master volume heads and none of them had the voice of this amp. We spent endless hours choosing parts and listening side by side with my original amp. we sourced a lower voltage mains transformer which is producing within a few volts of specs of the original. Listened to a number of the top replacement 784-139 output transformers and decided to use the hand wound Chris Merren version which will be stock in the amp. Chris makes amazing sounding transformers! I had a local metal shop help with the layout and then make custom .090" aluminum chassis with welded and finished ground corners. Then another local business took care of black powder coating and silk screening. The Metropoulos "Zero Loss" effects loop comes stock along with a couple of other extra switches. The mini switch on the front next to the preamp knob allows you to remove the .001 cap on the preamp pot from the circuit. This switch can also be used as an optional gain switch that will switch between 2 different gain structures, one position is the stock 2204 value and the other position adds a fair amount of gain. This option is available for an  upcharge of $50.00. The "Voicing" switch on the back allows you to choose between 2 different negative feedback resistors. The "Classic" position voices the amp like my original and in the "Modern" position it gets a little more aggressive, brighter and a bit more gain. all hand wired and all made locally right here in New Hampshire. Amps will come with reissue Mullard EL34 power tubes and NOS Chinese 12AX7 preamp tubes. I also have a small stash of German Siemens EL34's and will offer a pair of them as a $125.00 upgrade. I have added a few pictures of the completed circuit and the hardwood head box. Here's a build component list: Custom made .090" aluminum chassis that is powder coated gloss black and then silkscreened with metallic gold ink, Low voltage mains power transformer, hand wound Merren Audio output transformer, mil spec teflon coated 18 AWG stranded silver plated copper wire, JJ filter caps, NOS Amphenol power tube sockets, Belton preamp tube sockets with gold anodized shields, PEC 2W mil spec pots, 9 SoZo caps and 1 Mallory, mostly 1w carbon film resistors, real UK Cliff jacks, Metropoulos "Zero Loss" effects loop, gold plated and knurled brass knobs. Also will be working on a number of various sound clips.(NOTE: THERE ARE 2 SETS OF PICTURES YOU CAN LOOK AT. CLICK ON THE THUMBNAIL AND THE BLACK TOLEXED AMP WILL COME UP. IN THE TOP LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE PICTURE YOU WILL SEE #1 and #2, WHEN YOU CLICK ON #2 YOU WILL LOAD THE PICTURES OF THE HARDWOOD CAB) CLICK HERE TO GET TO MY YOUTUBE PAGE TO LISTEN TO SOUND CLIPS JUST GOT THIS VIDEO CLIP JOE BONAMASSA TEST DRIVING AN MGL50 HEAD ANOTHER VIDEO JUST IN:GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE DEMO

  Gibson 1953 Les Paul Conversion
(Item#250)(consignment) 1953 Les Paul conversion, originally a '53 trapeze tailpiece goldtop, guitar was purchased from Gruhn Guitar by the customer who has consigned it with me and this is the storyline as written in the letter from Gruhn that comes with the guitar. Guitar was sent back to Gibson in the '60's with a broken neck, neck was replaced with what looks to be an early '60's neck with SG looking celluloid inlays and Brazilian board, neck was set to late '50's angle and there is a shim under the fingerboard, guitar was then refinished in a cherry sunburst, back was also finished in a cherry red and there is a silt sunburst pattern on the back, guitar was set up with an ABR-1 no wire bridge and new ES style trapeze tailpiece. a 1963 wiring harness was also installed along with reflector knobs. Once the current owner bought the guitar, he then sent it to Terry Mueller to have the P90 routes blocked and then routed for humbuckers, and also installed the inserts for a stop tailpiece. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 14 ounces, typical slim early '60's neck that measures: 1st fret - .797", 12th fret - .991", other than the harness, knobs and real nickel no-wire ABR-1 bridge, all other parts are reissue parts of some kind, pickups and rings are Historic, I think the pickups are '57 Classics and read: bridge - 7.8K, neck - 7.7K, guitar plays and sounds great! Comes with a reissue brown Lifton case and the letter from Gruhn.

TruVintage - Dave Johnson Replica Burst Guard For 2009 & Newer Historic Reissue LP's
(Item#151) TruVintage - Dave Johnson replica Burst guard, Dave and I have been working on this for a while and they have been used on the last few guitars that we have done, Dave has a Burst guard at his shop and we also got scans from Frank Pine of his original guard, other than the difference in the pickup spacing between original '50's LP's and Historics the other thing we found was that the outer line of the guard was fairly different and the real guards are actually smaller than the reissues. Then there's the gap at the neck pickup ring and the radius of the corners that are more open. So Dave has made a template with the Historic pickup spacing and the rest of the guard shape and lines exact to an original. There are guards available with the gap at the neck pickup ring but none that I know of that have the outer shape correct as most have the Historic shape. Take a look at the last 2 pictures. I put tape around the edges of a Historic guard and then put our new guard on top and screwed them together. You can easily see the purple tape showing the difference in the cut. I've posted pictures of a few of the guitars we've done to see the guard installed. The guards will be offered in: NOS - $69.00, lightly aged - $79.00, heavy aged - $89.00 and heavy aged w/ pick wear - $99.00. The lightly aged looks good on stock VOS guitars, lightly aged Murphy and Makeover guitars. Guitars with more extreme aging need the heavy aged guard. Guards are for 2009 and later guitars. (at some point Dave will make a template for 1999-2008 guitars) Shipping will be $7.15 for Priority Flat Rate Mail. I'VE GOT A FEW OF THESE GUARDS AVAILABLE WITHOUT THE GAP AT THE NECK PICKUP RING. (NOTE: THESE ARE AGED ONE AT A TIME AND EACH ONE WILL BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT)
$69.00 NOS, $79.00 Aged, $89.00 Heavy Aged
