NEW MGL AmpWorks Lead Master Series Single Channel "1981-2204" 50w Amp

$2,800.00

NEW MGL AmpWorks Lead Master Series single channel “1981-2204” 50w amp head built on our new chassis layout that pays tribute to the classic 2204. The “1981-2204” is sonically dead on to my original 1981 Marshall JMP 50w master volume head that I’ve owned for over 30 years. Many customers over the years and myself think this is the best sounding original example they’ve heard. We’ve matched all the components in values and tones along with accurate voltages throughout the amp circuit. So, a faithful 2204 circuit with some modern added features. Front panel: The first mini switch to the right of the Master volume is for Gain Level, in the down (VIN) position you get the stock gain of a stock 2204, and in the up (MOD) position you get some added gain, 2nd mini switch to the right is a 3-way bright switch, down is the stock value bright cap, in the middle there is no bright cap and with the switch up it’s a value at about half way. Back panel includes a “Zero Loss” effects loop w/ true bypass switch, 2nd switch in the up position will engage a Jose style diode clipping Saturation circuit and last switch to the right is the Voicing switch that we use on all of our amps, in the Vintage position you get a warmer, sweeter and more compressed tone and in the modern position you get a tighter, brighter & more aggressive tone. These amps come stock in a custom Swanson Cabinets 26” late ‘70’s JMP style head cab as seen in the pictures, 26” or 24” Plexi style head cab is also an option at no up-charge, and as always we offer many tolex colors available at no up-charge (unlike the big companies that get $200.00 just for a custom color!!) These amps use a lower voltage power transformer like the late ‘70’s thru ‘81 Marshall 2204’s which makes for a warmer, fatter and more woody tone. We can also use our higher voltage 100w power transformer for a tighter, faster and more aggressive tone to match the higher voltage change that Marshall made in 1982.

By choice, we keep our amp production numbers low, so each customer gets a custom build. We spend as much time needed in detailed phone conversations and or emails to get you into the right model amp and the choice of aesthetic looks & appointments we offer. By building a lower number of amps, each build gets more detailed attention and we have the luxury of incorporating better components, including NOS parts & tubes in each build. The foundation, tonally for all our amp models is authentic Marshall voicings. And nothing has more Marshall DNA than real NOS mustard caps! All amps other than the 2204 model include 5-10 real mustard caps throughout the circuit. Larger production amp builders really can’t include these build appointments due to the difficulty locating and buying larger quantities of NOS parts. I’m constantly searching the world for NOS parts & tubes.
