(Item#305) 2009 Gibson Custom Shop - Dave Johnson Full Makeover 1959 Les Paul Reissue (with old growth Brazilian board)

$20,000.00

(Item#305) I just got this guitar back and have added some nice upgrades. 2009 ‘59 reissue with Honduran Mahogany back and neck and a super vintage looking Eastern flame maple top. This is one of the most vintage vibe makeovers we’ve done over the years. Dave did a killer warm & amber burst. the burst color like Caramel but from some angles, it gets the cool greenish brown color like many originals. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 8 ounces, “C” shape neck with small shoulders that measures: 1st fret - .885”, 12th fret - 1.00”. We originally completed the guitar in 2017. Dave Johnson did a complete makeover including: Re-shape top carve and neck shape, soften headstock shape and edges, install vintage spec truss rod with no plastic sleeve, install quatersawn old growth Brazilian rosewood fingerboard w/ real celluloid aged inlays, new binding and tortoise side dot markers & nylon nut. Complete re-finish in vintage accurate Nitorcellulose Lacquer using correct thinners and solvents that gas-off quickly for a hard finish, Aniline cherry still under the switch ring, neck pickup ring and pickguard, cold induced real finish checking(not instant cold air checking), and then finish aging, rolled neck binding for a played-in feel, we dropped 1 number from the original 6 digit serial number to have a vintage correct 5 digit serial number with space after the “9”. Original serial number stamped inside the control cavity. Here is a list of the parts installed: set of aged NOS wire Rewind PAF pickups from the Dave Johnson-MGL 15th Anniversary Run(I had a few extra sets made), double white bobbins and I’ve installed an aged Rewind cover on the bridge pickup(can be removed if buyer prefers) pickups are mounted in the best CAB M69 replica rings made by Tom Bartlett, Dave Johnson aged vintage shape pickguard(outer shape taken from ans original Burst guard), premium vintage taper CTS pots w/ vintage BumbleBee caps, aged set of reissue “Milk Bottle” Grover tuners, Dave installed the Klusons after the finish was done to leave the footprint of the Klusons in the finish as you’d see on an original guitar with Grovers added, TruVintage parts: aged ABR-1 saddles & screws installed in an aged Gibson Historic bridge body, aged ABR-1 thumbwheels & posts, cream switch ring & aged switch nut, real Catalin switch tip, aged amber knobs, rolled truss rod cover and aged cream jackplate. Guitar has no added wear or aging from when it was completed. This guitar is stunning in all ways including playing and sounding like it should! Comes with Gibson paperwork, certificate, Dave Johnson certificate and really nice Gator TSA ATA black molded case. Yes, the price is expensive but compare it to what you get for the same money in a current Custom Shop guitar, different world! NOTE: Dave is no longer doing Makeover style work as he’s moving on to building his own guitars.
