MGL AmpWorks Limited Run Lead Master 50 Amp head w/ Real NOS Mustard Caps
(Item#368) Now available, a limited run of MGL50 amp heads being built with all (NOS) real Mustard caps and include (NOS) RFT - Siemens EL34 power tubes!! These amps use the same components as the regular MGL50 including: 1w carbon film resistors, mil spec teflon wire, PEC 2w pots, in-house made turret boards, Merren Audio hand wound paper bobbin 784-139 output transformer, Metropoulos "Zero Loss" effects loop w/ true bypass switch, these builds also use ARS 50/50 filter caps that are copies of the period correct blue LCR caps that Marshall used. Swanson Cabinet made head box available in 26" or 24" with some choices of custom color tolex at no extra charge. The prototype has been done for a few weeks and really sounds great! The best description I can give is that the amp bridges the gap between a plexi and standard JMP or JCM800 master volume. The mustard caps certainly add some of the old plexi - non master tone, sweet and complex, but at the same time, plenty of Marshall snarl, bite and attitude! I don't have a large stash of the mustard caps so I can't say how long the run will last. Please call or email for more info.

NEW RELEASE! MGL AmpWorks MGL20 Amp Head
(Item#367) I'm excited to announce the release of the new MGL AmpWorks MGL20 head! The basic circuit of the amp is much the same as the MGL50, which is a clone of my original 50w 2204 master volume head. But with a custom low voltage mains transformer and a pair of 6V6 power tubes. So a killer master volume Marshall tone that's about 22 watts. Like the MGL50, the lower voltage makes the amp very smooth and sweet but still has plenty of Marshall like attitude! The main focus for the amp was that it had to sound great at low "at home" volumes, but also would do fine at lower volume band gigs and rehearsals. And it does all of that and then some!! Amp is available in 3 head cab sizes, 26"(standard 50 small box), 24" and a small 20" to fit on top of the smaller 1-12" speaker cabs without hanging over the sides. In the pictures posted, the first head is in a 20" cab, 2nd head is a Burgundy 24" and the rest are 26". There is also matching 24" 1-12" speaker cab now available. Just like the MGL50, this amp is all point to point hand wired and built by Guy Harvey. As with the MGL50, all high quality parts are used. The first .022uf cap in the circuit is an NOS Mullard Mustard cap, all others are SoZo tone caps, CTS pots, custom USA made transfomers, in-house made turret boards, mil spec teflon wire, NOS Chinese Military grade 12AX7 preamp tubes & choice of TAD or JJ 6V6 power tubes, .090" aluminum chassis w/ welded & ground corners, black powder coat and screened with metallic gold ink. The amp in either size head cab is $1,700.00 with the Metropoulos "Zero Loss" effects loop as an option for $180.00. Custom tolex colors are also available depending on what Swanson has in stock. Email or call for more info. I'VE GOT 4 AMPS BEING BUILT NOW, 2 ARE SOLD AND 2 WILL BE AVAILABLE. I'VE GOT SOME NEW MP3 SOUND CLIPS THAT ARE NOW AVAILABLE ON MY YOUTUBE PAGE. MGL20 CLIPS

MGL AmpWorks Lead Master 50 Amp Head
(Item#366) MGL AmpWorks Lead Master 50 (MGL50). This is a 50 watt master volume circuit amp that started off as a clone of my personal 2204 Marshall head that I’ve owned for the last 23 years. I’ve had many of these amps thru my store and this one is the best I’ve heard. Many of the ’79 – ’83 2204 amps have a lower voltage mains transformer and most agree that these were the best sounding JMP and early JCM800 50w heads. The basic circuit and voltages of the MGL50 are based on my 2204, but it has evolved into a more versatile amp including some very useful features & options listed. GAIN STRUCTURE: The mini switch on the front panel next to the preamp knob allows you to switch between 2 different gain structures. In the down position you get the stock 2204 value for classic rock Marshall crunch. In the up position you get more gain that will easily cover most ‘80’s heavier rock and produces a very smooth and singing lead tone. NEGATIVE FEEDBACK: The "Voicing" switch on the back panel allows you to choose between 2 different negative feedback resistor values. The "Classic" position is stock 2204 and in the "Modern" position it gets a little tighter, more aggressive and brighter with a bit more gain. EFFECTS LOOP: Uses the Metropoulus “Zero Loss” loop that incudes a “true bypass” switch. BUILD COMPONENTS: Locally made .090” aluminum chassis w/ welded and finish ground corners, gloss black powder coating and screened text with metallic gold ink, brass screws used in assembly. Period correct voltage mains transformer, Merren Audio hand wound paper bobbin 784-139 output transformer, Custom wound UK Dagnall power choke, PTP hand wired on in-house made turret boards, PEC 2watt mil spec pots, NOS Amphenol power tube sockets & Belton preamp tube sockets w/ gold anodized covers, 18 AWG mil spec Teflon insulated silver plated copper stranded wire, a combination of SoZo & Synergy Royal Mustard caps, 1 watt carbon film resistors, real UK Cliff jacks, Mullard reissue EL34 power tubes, NOS military grade Chinese 12AX7 preamp tubes, Swanson Cabinets 26” or 24” tolexed Baltic Birch head cab (tolex color choices at no extra charge) PRICING: BASE MODEL - $2,500.00 (comes w/ black knobs), KNURLED BRASS KNOBS - $40.00, NOS SIEMENS EL34 POWER TUBES - $125.00, HARDWOOD CAB (Figured Maple, Cherry, Black Walnut) - $400.00 CLICK HERE for YouTube sound clips

MGL AmpWorks Style One 1-12" Speaker Cab
(Item#365) MGL AmpWorks 1-12" closed back 16 ohm speaker cab built by Swanson Cabinets, cab is built with 5/8" Baltic Birch plywood including baffle board, grill cloth is NOS real salt & pepper basketweave from England, Swanson has a limited amount of this that he is using on my cabs, cab is 24"W x 20"H x 11"D, speaker is purposely off center towards the bottom to cancel unwanted resonance, stock speaker is a Celestion G12C "Watch Tower" 25w Greenback, the G12C has less doping than the standard 25w reissue so it's a little warmer and sweeter, optional speaker for an extra $25.00 is a Celestion G12H30 Hellatone w/ 15 hours of break-in, the G12H30 is tighter and more focused with more solid bottom end, so a little more aggressive and modern. (MULTIPLE TOLEX COLOR OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE, JUST ASK)

Gibson 2018 Custom Shop VOS Historic 1959 Les Paul Figured Top Reissue
(Item#331)(as new) Just got in my first 2018 Historic '59 reissue in VOS Dark Bourbon Fade, very rich burst color, guitar weighs 8 lbs 3 ounces. Being the first one I've had, these are my observations of this guitar that I've posted on the forums. All specs and parts look to be True Historic. Checked the pickguard spacing to be sure. As a Standard Historic guard will not fit a True Historic. The first thing I noticed right away pulling it out of the case is the neck shape and size. This is by far the most accurate neck size of any year reissue other than some of the signature and Collectors Choice models. Neck measurements are: 1st fret - .887", 12th fret - .967". The binding is slightly rolled but not as much as an aged guitar. The little lower True Historic style frets have a nice and broken-in feel and the guitar has a very easy and slinky feel. So much so that I checked the string gauge with my dial caliper to make sure they were 10-46, and they are. The Dark Bourbon Fade color is really nice and I like the fade around the bottom of the body with the stronger color only at the upper bout. They are no longer using a toner(amber) in the clear coats so the binding on the body and neck is the natural cream-bone plastic color. The Custom Buckers seem to be about the same and both measure right at 7.75K. Removed the control cavity plate and the electronics look to be the same. One thing I did notice is that the raw Mahogany color looks to be a little darker. The Fiji Mahogany over the last number of years has been very light in color. The faded color on the back of the body and neck look fine to me and from what I see in the control cavity, looks to be correct pore filler. In the past few years some of the backs look to bright red to me and I know that they were spraying a candy red in the clear over top of the color from the pore filler to make it darker. Dave Johnson pointed it out when stripping some of the guitars. The guitar is VOS but did not have much of the typical VOS gunk on it but was still just a little hazy and hiding the rich Bourbon color so I lightly wiped the haze off the top and then the color really came out. One last detail is that the reissue Lifton cases are now being sprayed with a clear over the outside to replicate how the originals were sprayed with lacquer. The pictures posted are not the best but have to do for now untril we get some sun here. The first pictures are just sitting on a desk in my office with low level light. The last 3 on hanging on the wall and taken with flash. Guitar comes with all paperwork, certificate and reissue Lifton case. (tone report soon but it sounds really nice!)

  Gibson 1953 Les Paul Conversion
(Item#329)(consignment)(PRICE JUST REDUCED BY $1,000.00) 1953 Les Paul conversion, originally a '53 trapeze tailpiece goldtop, guitar was purchased from Gruhn Guitar by the customer who has consigned it with me and this is the storyline as written in the letter from Gruhn that comes with the guitar. Guitar was sent back to Gibson in the '60's with a broken neck, neck was replaced with what looks to be an early '60's neck with SG looking celluloid inlays and Brazilian board, neck was set to late '50's angle and there is a shim under the fingerboard, guitar was then refinished in a cherry sunburst, back was also finished in a cherry red and there is a silt sunburst pattern on the back, guitar was set up with an ABR-1 no wire bridge and new ES style trapeze tailpiece. a 1963 wiring harness was also installed along with reflector knobs. Once the current owner bought the guitar, he then sent it to Terry Mueller to have the P90 routes blocked and then routed for humbuckers, and also installed the inserts for a stop tailpiece. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 14 ounces, typical slim early '60's neck that measures: 1st fret - .797", 12th fret - .991", other than the harness, knobs and real nickel no-wire ABR-1 bridge, all other parts are reissue parts of some kind, pickups and rings are Historic, I think the pickups are '57 Classics and read: bridge - 7.8K, neck - 7.7K, guitar plays and sounds great! Comes with a reissue brown Lifton case and the letter from Gruhn.

CreamTone - MGL "Absolute Vintage" Nickel Plated Aluminum Stop Tailpiece
(Item#294) Just got a few of these in and they look great! Lonnie from CreamTone and I have done a bunch of projects together but he gets all of the credit for these. USA made, aluminum stop tailpiece. The tailpiece is made from featherweight aluminum, and the studs are steel, both are plated in nickel with no copper underplate. Other manufacturers use a copper underplate because the copper fills in the tiny imperfections in the steel and creates a bonding layer for the nickel plate on top which cuts costs. Without the copper, the steel must be polished to remove any imperfections and the nickel plate must be applied very carefully. It's much more labor intensive, but it's the way Gibson did it in the 50s, so we've decided it's worth the extra effort to make our parts as vintage correct as possible. Over the years, most of the nickel wears off from use. The old Bursts have dark spots where this has happened. If you have an older Historic Reissue and have noticed some of the hardware is turning pink, that's the copper showing through as the nickel wears away. Our studs are guaranteed to age like the original parts and never turn pink. We've also rolled the edges of the tailpiece and it simply looks amazing! Studs are offered in the shorter Historic length (.781") or longer vintage length (.938") so please let me know which you want when ordering. Priority Mail with be $7.20

TruVintage - Dave Johnson Replica Burst Guard For 2009 & Newer Historic Reissue LP's
(Item#151) TruVintage - Dave Johnson replica Burst guard, Dave and I have been working on this for a while and they have been used on the last few guitars that we have done, Dave has a Burst guard at his shop and we also got scans from Frank Pine of his original guard, other than the difference in the pickup spacing between original '50's LP's and Historics the other thing we found was that the outer line of the guard was fairly different and the real guards are actually smaller than the reissues. Then there's the gap at the neck pickup ring and the radius of the corners that are more open. So Dave has made a template with the Historic pickup spacing and the rest of the guard shape and lines exact to an original. There are guards available with the gap at the neck pickup ring but none that I know of that have the outer shape correct as most have the Historic shape. Take a look at the last 2 pictures. I put tape around the edges of a Historic guard and then put our new guard on top and screwed them together. You can easily see the purple tape showing the difference in the cut. I've posted pictures of a few of the guitars we've done to see the guard installed. The guards will be offered in: NOS - $69.00, lightly aged - $79.00, heavy aged - $89.00 and heavy aged w/ pick wear - $99.00. The lightly aged looks good on stock VOS guitars, lightly aged Murphy and Makeover guitars. Guitars with more extreme aging need the heavy aged guard. Guards are for 2009 and later guitars. (at some point Dave will make a template for 1999-2008 guitars) Shipping will be $7.20 for Priority Flat Rate Mail. (NOTE: THESE ARE AGED ONE AT A TIME AND EACH ONE WILL BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT)
$69.00 NOS, $79.00 Aged, $89.00 Heavy Aged
