MGL AmpWorks MGL50HG High Gain Amp Head
(Item#750) MGL AmpWorks MGL50 HG high gain amp, a tribute to the great modded Marshall tones of the '80's and forward. This is a single channel master volume amp w/ three 12AX7 preamp tubes and a pair of EL34 power tubes. All tube preamp circuit, no extra gain from solid state or diode clipping circuits. The focus of this amp was: lots of useable gain without any need to add pedals. Singing lead tones with plenty of sustain. Also great clarity and note definition when playing chords so every note is heard, chunky low mids and a presence in the upper mids that makes for effortless "Superlead" like harmonics that jump off the strings. Much attention was focused on the importance of sounding great at low home volumes, and all of this without compromising the tone and feel. This is beast of an amp with plenty of attitude and a blast to play! We're also very happy to have partnered with a killer Los Angeles based guitar player, Jimmy Burkard, who is doing all of the demo videos! Please use the link below to visit the new MGL Amps website for detailed descriptions and demo videos. Setting Font SizeCLICK HERE: MGL AmpWorks.com
UPDATE: Thanks to all of the great customers who have purchased our amps and continue to enjoy them! As with most manufacturing and other amp builders, COVID has made many things more difficult, including getting parts, increased pricing for parts and crazy inflated shipping costs. The price of our Dagnall power transformer alone went up by $40.00 per unit. And that's just 1 part. I have absorbed all of the price increases for the last year but as of now I need to bump the price of the 50w amps to cover at least part of the increases. Thanks and hope you understand.

MGL AmpWorks MGL50 Amp Head (VERSION 2)
(Item#749) MGL AmpWorks MGL50 V2 master volume amp. This is an updated Version 2 of the original MGL50 amp we released 4 years ago. The foundation is still based on the Marshall JMP - JCM800 2204 circuit but with some new mods in a few areas that gives the amp more gain and a tighter, more focused voice that will cover higher gain playing without having to boost the front end with a pedal. But you can also back off the preamp and still get all of the classic 2204 tones.

NEW MGL AmpWorks MGL20 Version 2 Amp Head
(Item#748) Now available, the NEW MGL20 Version 2 (V2). Over the last bunch of months we've had a number of customers that couldn't decide between the standard MGL20 circuit and the high gain version. So that sparked the idea of combining both circuits in one amp. The MGL20 prototype is around just for these projects! By adding a mini switch on the front and back panel we came up with a way to incorporate both circuits in the same amp. I then lent the prototype to a good local customer who played it quite a bit for a few months and he was super happy with the tones he was getting from both circuits. We are now building one for him. I told a few other potential customers about it and they both ordered this new version. So as of now, all future MGL20 amps will be built to this spec. The switch on the front to the right of the input jack selects between the 2 gain structures. In the down position it's the original circuit, and in the up position you get the high gain. The switch on the back between the speaker jack and fuse holder selects the choice between 2 different fixed resonance circuit values. The down position works great with the original circuit. In the up position you get more bottom end thump and that works well with the high gain circuit. Use whichever one gets you the sound you're looking for!   Gibson 2016 Custom Shop VOS 1959 Les Paul Reissue - MGL HotRod Series
(Item#735) A number of years ago I had the MGL HotRod Series which were guitars that I would customize with parts and pickups to fine tune them tonally & aesthestically, I would first listen to them stock and then choose pickups that would work best with the natural voice of the guitars, So I've decided to bring them back as I enjoy tweaking the guitars to get a little more out of them. Here's the 4th one that I just finished, 2016 VOS '59 reissue in Lemonburst finish with a great vintage looking maple top, guitar weighs 8 lbs 4 ounces, full "C" shape neck that measures: 1st fret - .908", 12th fret - 1.005", dark brown Indian rosewood fingerboard, Here's what I've added to this one: a set of Duncan Seth Lover pickups, zebra bridge pickup that reads 7.97K and a double white neck that reads 7.25K, pickups are mounted in a set of True Historic rings, True Historic truss rod cover, CreamTone pickguard, TruVintage poker chip, NOS amber bonnet knobs and aged ABR-1 thumbwheels, guitar is in super clean condition, back has some light worming or rivet marks here and there(hard to take a picture of), but nothing deep or thru the finish, lively, open and bright guitar, open chords really ring, the pickup change made a huge difference, the Burstbuckers were much more metallic and hard in the upper mids, The Seth Lovers sound much more vintage and smooth while still retaining the comes with hang tags, warranty paper, certificate and brown Custom Shop case.(original parts replaced are also included in the case)

Gibson 2013 Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Reissue w/ Tom Murphy Top Refin
(Item#734) 2013 '59 reissue that was a custom order thru House of Guitars and then later sent to Tom Murphy for a top only refinish, this is one of the best maple tops I've seen in many years, absolutely stunning, and rivals most of the big tops from the '90's. And then adding Tom's finish just took it to another level!! Guitar weighs 8 lbs 4 ounces, neck measurements: 1st fret - .922", 12th fret - 1.003", very dark Indian rosewood fingerboard, Custombucker pickups that read: bridge - 8.18K, neck - 7.71K, I've added a set of TruVintage NOS knobs and the originals are included in the case, guitar is still in like new condition and has been played very little, the pictures tell the rest of the story, comes with all original paperwork, certificate and brown reissue case. I also have the finish work documented with pictures of the process from Tom.

Gibson 2021 Custom Shop VOS 1959 Les Paul Reissue - MGL HotRod Series
(Item#717) A number of years ago I had the MGL HotRod Series which were guitars that I would customize with parts and pickups to fine tune them tonally & aesthestically, I would first listen to them stock and then choose pickups that would work best with the natural voice of the guitars, So I've decided to bring them back as I enjoy tweaking the guitars to get a little more out of them. Here's the 2nd one that I just finished, 2021 '59 reissue in Royal Teaburst VOS finish with a bookmatched curly maple top, guitar weighs 8 lbs 7 ounces, "C" shape neck with small shoulders and very comfortable to play, neck measurements: 1st fret - .889", 12th fret - .972", dark brown Indian rosewood fingerboard that has a very smooth feel to it. Here's the list of parts and work done on the guitar: First off I removed the nickel parts and aged some of them more so that they all had a better match(most of the time the stock VOS parts are a mix, some too shiny still and some more aged), I tried a few sets and combinations of pickups in this guitar and settled on a zebra bobbin Duncan '59 in the bridge that reads 8.26K and a double cream bobbin Seth Lover pickup in the neck that reads 7.43K, TruVintage aged amber bonnet knobs, replica poker chip, ABR-1 aged thumbwheels and more accurate aged aluminum tailpiece, set-up has been gone over and guitar is strung with Ernie Ball 10-46 strings. Real nice sounding guitar that's well balanced, very resonant and lively with an overall good presence, bottom end stays tight and focused, single notes on the low strings have good definition and clarity, mids are fat and clear with a cool nasal quack for a great bridge pickup lead tone, upper mids and top end have some sizzle and bite, middle and neck pickup positions are pretty open and not at all muddy. Guitar is in unplayed condition and comes with all paperwork, certificate and reissue Lifton case. (replaced original parts also included)

  TruVintage Aged Aluminum Stop Tailpiece
(Item#715) Just got these in, aged nickel plated aluminum stop tailpiece, these have some extra steps taken that are more vintage accurate than the stock reissue tailpiece, the sharp edges have been broken and rolled by hand, the nickel plating is direct to the aluminum without the layer of copper used in all modern plating, without the soft copper layer which is an easy way to fill imperfections, more time is needed to polish the raw aluminum before plating. In the last picture the shiny tailpiece on the left is a stock Historic and you can see how much sharper the lines are around the ear. Tailpiece will fit the stock reissue studs.
