Gibson 2010 Custom Shop - Dave Johnson 1958 Plaintop Reissue
(Item#553) I got this guitar back from the customer I sold it to years ago when it was done by Dave. I decided to send it back to Dave for a new Burst color and more aging. Just got it back and it looks, plays and sounds great!! This now looks like the younger sibling of the "Dirty Lemon BarFly" that we did a bunch of years ago. Really has an old vibe! This was originally a '57 reissue in Iced Tea sunburst finish that I bought brand new and sent to Dave Johnson to do a '58 Plaintop makeover, it had a good looking fingerboard to we chose to not add a Brazilian board. Here's what was done: reshape top carve and neck shape, break the sharp edges on headstock, install real cellulose inlays in fingerboard, complete refinish in old style nitro lacquer and aging, real finish checking, correct aniline red pore filler on back and neck, rolled neck binding for a well played feel, guitar weighs 8 lbs 14 ounces, '58 "C" shape neck that measures: 1st fret - .900", 12th fret - .987". Here's a full parts list: Bare Knuckle "Stormy Monday" pickup set w/ aged nickel covers mounted in True Historic pickup rings, aged Dave Johnson pickguard w/ gap at neck pickup ring, TruVintage amber bonnet knobs, aged stock no-wire ABR-1 bridge, TruVintage thumbwheels & posts, aged reissue Kluson tuners, CreamTone aged truss rod cover, TrueVintage poker chip, TrueVintage jackplate, CTS 500K pots and Sprague Vitamin Q PIO caps and Dave Johnson made black back plates. Originally I had installed Grover tuners but only the back of the tuner holes were opened up so Klusons also still fit. I would be happy to swap to Grovers if that's what the buyer wants. Really great old sounding guitar, I really like the pickups, Bottom end is tight and focused, low strings have a good presence for clarity, mids are fat and clear, leads on the bridge pickup have a vocal like character, top end is smooth but still has some bite, middle and neck pickup positions are warm and clear. Comes with all original Gibson paperwork, certificate, Dave Johnson letter and black Gibson Custom case. NOTE: THE PICTURE FORMAT FOR THIS LISTING IS DIFFERENT. THERE ARE 10 INDIVIDUAL LARGE FORMAT PICTURES TO BETTER SEE THE DETAIL IN THE AGING. WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE THUMBNAIL, YOU WILL THEN BE ABLE TO CLICK ON "Image1" thru "Image 10"

Gibson 1999 Historic Collection - Vintage World Tom Murphy Painted and Aged 1959 Les Paul Reissue
(Item#462)(consignment) 1999 Tom Murphy painted & aged '59 reissue. This is an infamous guitar with a long story so I'll try to make it as abriviated as possible. The customer involved in the story is a friend and I had first hand knowledge of all that went on. In 1999 Ronn David, the owner of Vintage World, and Tom Murphy got together with Gibson to do an exclusive run of 40th Annv. aged '59 Les Pauls. These would be the first guitars that Murphy aged for Gibson. Ronn and Murphy also came to an agreement for Tom to paint the guitars. Once the guitars were sold Murphy would then send a letter to the buyer on his "Guitar Preservation" letterhead with the serial number and stating that it was painted by him exclusively for Vintage World. A local NH customer who had already bought some guitars from Ronn in the past bought one of the new aged '59's and was super excited about them. He then sent a number of buyers to Ronn who also purchased aged '59's and told Ronn that he'd continue to help sell the guitars. Ronn offered him a commisssion. But what he really wanted instead of money was to own the first guitar, 9 9001, which Ronn was using for advertizing and taking to guitar shows. So they came to an agreement that once Ronn was done using 9 9001, he would then sell it to this customer for his help. Well, sometime during the year Ronn either shopped the guitar or got an offer he couldn't receive from a guitar shop in Japan and in turn sold 9 9001 without anyone knowing and especially the customer he had made the deal with. During the rest of the year as regular non aged R9's were being produced, Ronn searched for a guitar with a maple top that could double for #1. He finally came up with one. He then sent it to Tom Murphy claiming that he was going to keep it. And had Tom refinish and age it to replicate #1. And then lastly had Tom replace it's late 1999 6 digit serial number with "9 9001". Without Tom Murphy's knowledge Ronn then told the customer that he had the agreement with that he was ready to sell #1 to him for his help in selling many of the guitars. So this customer then purchased the fake and replicated 9 9001. Soon after purchasing the guitar, information surfaced about the real #1 going to Japan and the shit hit the fan! In the end, the customer got taken care by Gibson and 2 special guitars were made for him with the agreement that he would send the fake #1 and all paperwork to Gibson and originally it was stated that the guitar would be destroyed. Well, a copy of the Murphy letter and original certificate were made and kept. Gibson decided to not destroy the guitar but instead found the original serial number and reapplied it to the guitar. They also made up a special certificate stating the the guitar once had the serial number 9 9001 without their knowledge on consent. So the guitar is now for sale with me and is a wonderful and gorgeous guitar! Guitar weighs 8 lbs 8 ounces and is still all stock with minimal playing time on it, nice feeling neck that's not real big for that era and measures: 1st fret - .887", 12th fret - 1.004", super dark Indian roseweood fingerboard, '57 Classic pickups that read: bridge - 7.75K, neck - 7.61K, guitar comes with the copies of the original paperwork seen at the end of my pictures, new certificate with original serial number and a brown reissue Lifton case. NOTE: I personally go over every guitar in my inventory, consignments included. Fingerboards are gone over with extra fine steel wool to clean and give them a smoother feel, frets are polished and then the board is treated with Fret Doctor oil. Basic set-up is gone over and pickups are adjusted while test playing. Pre-owned guitars get a fresh set of Ernie Ball 10-46 strings.

  TruVintage Replica 1959 - '60 Cream Rhythm/Treble Ring
(Item#458) NEW RELEASE!! Another project between MGL and Lonnie at CreamTone, and USA made right in the CreamTone shop. Vintage accurate cream 1959 - '60 Rhythm/Treble ring, most of the current aftermarket poker chips have the lettering ink laid directly to the flat surface which is not accurate and allows the ink to rub off easily. The letters on the originals were embossed into the plastic and then filled with gold ink, these new lightly aged TruVintage rings are done the same way and finished by hand. Nice upgrade to any reissue LP. USPS Priority Mail $7.90 or I can wrap it in a piece of paper and mail it in a regular envelope for the price of a stamp. BUT, I won't be liable for loss if you choose that cheaper method.

TruVintage Exact Replica '50's Gibson ABR-1 Thumbwheels And Posts
(Item#454) (JUST GOT IN A NEW BATCH!!)(THE NEW 2019 REISSUES ARE GREAT AND HAVE THE MOST ACCURATE APPOINTMENTS, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE STILL USING THE CRAPPY STEEL THUMBWHEELS!)There are a number of reissue thumbwheels on the market that are somewhat close but none are correct. One of the main reasons is that the exact knurling tool that was used for the original '50's thumbwheels is no longer in use. We had a machine shop take detailed measurements and inspect every detail on an original set of ‘50’s thumbwheels I sent them. After multiple attempts to duplicate the knurl pattern we were told the only way to get it exact would be to order a custom made knurling tool so we did. Once a small number of wheels were done and nickel plated we were sent some prototypes for approval. Everything looked dead on and we approved production. The thumbwheels and posts are available in 2 versions, NOS(new and shiny) & aged. (wheels & posts are nickel plated brass) (special thanks to Charlie Daughtry for providing detailed  thumbwheel photos from one of his Bursts for comparison) We sent a set to Charlie once they were done and his simple reply was "Damn....they are extraordinary!” Made in the USA as are all TruVintage parts. (Shipping will be $7.90 for Priority 2nd Day Mail) (NOTE: Since 2009 the thumbwheels Gibson has been using are made from steel. Correct brass will have a warmer tone)
$40.00 (NOS) $45.00 (Aged)
